Historical Street of New York

It was one of the first to use cobblestone paved streets. It was originally built in the 1600s by Dutch colonists. As it began to fall into disrepair began to fight to get it restored. With the help of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and some federal funding, the street and store fronts were restored repaired and restored in a way to keep its 19th century appeal. The Historical Street has been since renamed “Stone Street Historic District.” Today the street is pedestrian access only but it continues to be a poignant part of Manhattan’s past, present and future.
